As Media, Research on Opening Title Sequence

For my AS media research project, on opening sequence I decided to look at a range of different genres, because I am not sure what genre I wanted to involve in my project. I have been inspired by by some of the horrors and thriller openings, as they use creative and after effects that I may find useful and relate to the film sequence i produce such as focus and layering.
Sherlock (BBC)

I like the long, high angle used here looking down on Piccadilly Circus, as well I like how the whole on the shot is out of focus on the buildings . This shot tells the viewer where the program is set as it is such a recognised place.

Title, wide angle shot shows the where the program is set and the name of the program it's self.

The close up shot of the gun which introduces that this is either a horror or an action adventure also that it may be a detective drama, when you pair it with the long high angle shot above of piccadilly.

I really like this shot because it is a short depth of field on a section of someones face.I really like how the way the actors names come and go, clear and quick.

I really love the layered effect has been used words for example "Bomber" Flash up throughout the opening tittles, I also like how they are hand written which stands out but the transparent background of London is still present confirming that the program is set there.

This is the first shot of the main Character i like how it is not a clear shot of him but a reflection in a Photo frame.

I really like this shot, it works with the shot of the gun close up to show that this program is either a horror or a action adventure.

The Hangover

The start of the flm opeing hows that there is going to be a wedding at somepoint in the film, the title are also themed to fit the the wedding setting.
I like the camera angles used here with the close up - to mid shot of which seems to be the main character and then the out of low apperture of the other men in the background.
With the camera switching to and from the wedding location ad the location where the men are in the middle of the desert the type of film being portrayed changes
The title of the film is very simple and straightforward, but in this case it is a change form the other credits and tittles coming up in the classy, sophisticated writing.
I like how there is shot of the location of the film and how the camera angles are used and how the camera stays with the tittles in the middle of the screen.

Again there are shots of the location of the film, which i hope to use in parts of my film opening.
You get the impression from this screen shot and serval others in the opening titles that it is filmed las vegas .

Slumdog Millionaire

I really like the idea of the Title, i think it is original, but a very simple yet powerful start to the film.
In this case subtitles add to the over all affect of the opening titles, the view already now knows that it is set in india and is based in the poorer areas.
I like how this camera angle has been used, the low but slanted angle of the camera gives the viewer a different perspective of the location and situation.
This shot confirms the idea that the film is set in the poorer areas, and sows the veiwer the over all location.
Again this is just a shot of the location of the film, evidently i could not produce this in my film opening but i like how it is used here.
.

I like how they are still using subtitles at tis piont and how they are portraying that there is some comedy in the film

Se7en

From the very start you can tell that this is a triller\horror, I like how drawings and articles are used during the start of the opening titles. Also by using the camera angle looking down on the drawing it acts like it is actually someones hands.
I like the macro focus on the turning pages of the book and the subtle yet effective subtitles.
The sharp focus on the worn and aged hand and sharp object give the viewer the opinion that this maybe the perpetrators.
I like the simplicity of the title here and using the number 7 instead of a v adds to the affect
I like the shadows in this shot and how there is an article used in it, with interaction with the crossing out of certain words and sections of sentences.

With the uses of strips of photos, articles and drawings you get the impression that this film is defiantly a horror about someone tracking down and killing people.

Dexter

Having the titles in blood seeping though the background automatically tells the viewer that this is a thriller or a crime drama.
The close macro shot of the face, gives the profile of the main character. This shot is of a face being shaved therefore we know that the main character is a man.
The reference to blood keeps telling the view that the program is a criminal drama or a thriller. They only use close up macro images which add to the overall affect of the opening tittles.

This shot looks like the person is being suffocated or something similar, all of the shots above and the over all opening titles portray the idea of this program to be a criminal dram or a triller
I like this close up it keeps with the theme of the program and also the same camera angle with the macro up as the other shots.

Forrest Gump

I like the simplicity of the opening sequence, with the falling feather and the plain font for the titles. I also like how the camera is slowly following the feather as it floats down.

This is the first shot of the main character, although it is not obvious. The camera angle gives the viewer a clear view o where the film is set. I also like how the camera is still flowing the feather.

I like this shot of the main characters feet, I like the low angle of the camera which focus you on the muddy shoes which therefore shows the viewer the type of personality of the main character.

This type of camera angle of a close up, works really well here as the view get to see the whole of the main character to get to this shot from the previous the camera paned upwards giving the viewer full view of him.

These next two shots work well to show you what type of film it is and shows the viewer more and more about the main character. the camera angle used works well to make the viewer focus on the mans suitcase.
